Join Scottish Waterways Trust’s Canal Officer in Inverness for a day of conservation volunteering on and around The Caledonian Canal.
We’ll be hosting the day in two parts so you can come along to one, or both!
Come along to our morning session to learn all about the amazing wildlife along the waterway. You’ll help us survey wildflower (and weather permitting, bumblebee) species by the canal.
No skills or experience is necessary, and it’s suitable for all ages of wildlife explorer! For the more experienced wildlife aficionado, we might be able to do some more in depth study on the day too.
We’ll teach you everything you need to know, and the data you collect will help us plan our local conservation strategy. As well as helping us, we’ll feed your results into national databases so we’ll be a part of the wider citizen scientist movement, contributing to nationwide conservation and nature study.
Where: Muirtown Locks
When: 10am – 12:15pm
Our afternoon session will focus on path maintenance at Dunain Woods, as we get stuck into caring for some of the walkways in the area.
Again, you’ll need no previous experience – we’ll teach you everything you need to know!
This will be a more physically demanding activity, but you’re hard work will help us make sure paths in the woodland are maintained for everyone in the community to enjoy.
Where: Dunain Woods, meeting at the duck-pond here
When: 14:00 – 16:30
What to bring
For both our dates, we’ll provide all the equipment needed (and tea and cake!). We ask that you please dress for the weather and bring your own packed lunch if you come along for the whole day.
All ages and abilities welcome.
Contact our Canal Officer Ruaraidh for more information or just come along on the day!
