We’re delighted to be awarded the top award at the Yorkshire & Clydesdale Bank Foundation Spirit of the Community Awards in Glasgow last night!
We were awarded a ‘Spirit of the Community Award’ and the top ‘Special Recognition Award’ for our Green Action employability programme in Falkirk.
The funding of £10,000 gives us the opportunity to help more young people in Falkirk through our innovative employability programme, Green Action. On the programme, young people learn practical conservation skills along Falkirk’s two canals.
We hope to begin Green Action once again this September.
Karen Moore, Chief Executive of Scottish Waterways Trust, said:
We are delighted to receive the top award from Clydesdale Bank towards our conservation employability programme for young people.
With this funding, we will help young people in Falkirk learn new skills and gain the vital self-confidence they need to get on the path to work, all outdoors along our vibrant canal network.
Green Action is our long-standing employability programme, which has reached over 900 young people not in employment, further education or training since it began.
This award will enable us to help more young people on the programme unlock their full potential whilst sustaining Scotland’s historic waterways and making a real difference in their local community.
