Hello! I’m Stephen and I’m the Trust’s Project Manager for canal college in the Highlands and for our Canal Life project. I work with communities throughout the Great Glen and beyond to connect them with the many benefits of the canal. Working with partners and volunteers, we like to think that we’re community catalysts!
Before taking up my role, I worked for 20 years in countryside management with the National Trust for Scotland in woods, mountains and shorelines but the Caley has a particular quality I had not experienced elsewhere. The canal offers easy access to the outdoors – flat towpaths, calm waters and beautiful scenery with a rich cultural heritage from the beating heart of the city into the Great Glen. We connect the canal with those who need it most – ideal for building confidence and physical and mental strength. Our work can make a real difference to people’s lives, and I’m proud to play a part in that.
Get in touch with me if you’re looking for committed help for a partner project in the majestic outdoors of the Great Glen. Even if it’s just an idea, we can help to shape and deliver it. You can also drop me a line if you want to know more about how canal college can help young people in Inverness.
