Laying the foundations for a brighter future

Young people on our Green Action programme in Falkirk have been learning new employability skills each week, including brick-laying skills on a one day course with Forth Valley College.

Laying the foundations

At the workshop, kindly subsidised by the local college, our young recruits got to grips with the art of brick-laying, learning new skills which will help them get into training, further education or work in the future.

So far on the 12 week course, the group have learned water safety skills, earned First Aid certificates and have helped to care for local greenspace around the iconic Falkirk Wheel. Each week they learn new practical outdoors skills and make a huge difference in caring for the canal environment in the process!

100 trees

In past weeks, the young people have learned how to work together as a group to complete activities which enhance the local area. In previous weeks they’ve created and improved pathways, managed vegetation and recently planted over 100 trees in the area.

The young people have already learned a great deal of new skills and are picking up certificates along the way to boost their CV’s.

Young ‘Green Action’ volunteers will celebrate their achievements and receive their well-earned awards and certificates at a celebration day at The Falkirk Wheel on March 30th.

Green Action is funded by Forestry Commission Scotland and Bank of Scotland Foundation.
